FICHP founded
( friends of the intangible culture heritage protection, a nonprofit & and nongovernmental association)
as the development of the modern civilization, lots of the human’s achievements (especially the intangible heritage)are dying ,maybe without being noticed and protected few years later nobody can see them any more,
one reason is because of the inconvenient transportation, some of them till today is hard to be known by the outside people ;
another is because they are too depended on the hands and till now they could not be made in bulk to get more profit, the artisans who make a living on them have to change their way for living to support their family ;
the third is because the art is too difficult to learn and hard to make the people who make a living on them be rich shortly, so they are lack of successor ;
the fourth reason is because the coming of the western civilization, more and more Chinese people like to chase the western things but ignore the traditional things.
But we believe the things represent one nation are the things belong to the whole world, for that is why one nation is different from the others, and we have the responsibility to protect them and let them be succeeded generation after generation.
We need more people know them and give a hand to us!

wine
Alcohol culture is one part of the Chinese food culture, which is typical of Chinese folklore. In China ,there are a variety of legends about the origin of alcoholic drinks, from them it can be concluded that the brewing of alcoholic drinks started as early as Xia Dynasty or even earlier than that, which has been proved by what the archaeologists have discoverd.
Xia Dynasty existed 4,000 years ago, however the old vessels that were used to brew alcoholic drinks 5000 years ago have been discovered, which shows that brewing of alcoholic drinks came into existence at least 5,000 years ago or even earlier .
In the distant ancient time, people found by chance some alcoholic drinks naturally fermented , then tried to copy it. It took them quite a long time to get the technique. but the alcohol was not invented by humans, as Scientists recently discovered there is alcohol hidden in some heavenly bodies in the boundless universe.
The reserves of alcohol in them, if made into beer, could be adequate for humans to drink hundreds of millions of years, which suggests that alcoholic beverages are the products of Nature. The mankind did not invented alcoholic beverages but discovered them .
According to the ancient legends and references based on the brewing principles, the earliest alcoholic drinks the mankind had an idea to brew should be fruit wine and milk alcoholic drink, for fruits and animals' milk were fairly easy to ferment into alcoholic drinks, which only needed rather simple brewing techniques.
but as the development of that ,we invented ways to brew different kinds of alcohol drinks. such as the white alcohol, yellow alcohol ,beer, fruit alcohol ,wine, medicine alcohol, ect. Alcohol now in China is not only a kind of drink but a comprehensive culture, here I’d like to introduce more about them.
tea
Tea in China
China is the native place of tea. It is believed that China has tea-shrubs as early as five to six thousand years ago, human cultivation of teaplants dated back two thousand years.
Tea is one kind of drink made by boiling water onto the processed tea tree leaves. in the daily life of Chinese people ,tea is a common but favorite drink. In Chinese we call tea “cha”, originally it was used as a kind of medicine, it was said , Shen nong, the legendary ruler in ancient china, once tasted hundreds of plants and got poisoned many times, it was tea that cured him of the poison.
As the ancient Chinese got to know more about tea ,instead of being regarded as medicine, tea became a drink. Little by little the Chinese tea culture was formed . Tea from China but spread all over the world ,nearly all tea trees in other countries have their origin directly or indirectly in China. The word for tea leaves or tea as a drink in many countries are derivatives from the Chinese character "cha." The Russians call it "cha'i", which sounds like "chaye" (tea leaves) as it is pronounced in northern China, and the English word "tea" sounds similar to the pronunciation of its counterpart in Xiamen (Amoy).
The Japanese character for tea is written exactly the same as it is in Chinese, though pronounced with a slight difference. The habit of tea drinking spread to Japan in the 6th century, but it was not introduced to Europe and America till the 17th and 18th centuries. Now the number of tea drinkers in the world is legion and is still on the increase. up to now, there are six tea system in China :green tea, black tea, scented tea, Oolong tea ,white tea and Compressed tea. each of them has different taste and function, there will be different ways to drink them.

Why comes this booklet?
When you, a foreigner, come to China for the first time, the headache problem you meet will be the language, so before your coming to China, you must have hunted in the bookstores to find a book which could supply you with some words and sentences, but questions are:
1. it is too complex
Some books want to tell you everything in China, so most of time you will be impatient to read.
2. it is too difficult to read
most of the books you found are used "pin ying", Chinese way to give each word its pronunciation, but is difficult for one who has not learned "pin ying" to read. Some of the sound you can hardly find in English.
3. it is too big and heavy
Most of the books are big and heavy, although they are good; it will be hard to take it with you anytime in China, so you'd like to put it in you hotel or in the tour car.
